Hong Kong is a place for refugees. People escape from China in the 1950s. So, this group of people lack security. Even after 1 or 2 generations, people still remember such experience and works on accumulating wealth.
I think if Hong Kong can stay economically stable and people are relatively well off for a few generations, then people will look for something else, such as life style, living quality, ...
